Our Scented Oils Philosophy
Essential oils add a natural and fresh scent to our soap collections, and are safe to use in soaps, lotions, and more. Whether you prefer earthy tea tree essential oil, spicy cinnamon essential oil, or bright apple essential oil, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
What are scented oils? Scented oils are concentrated liquids that are extracted from plants, flowers, and other natural sources. They are used to add fragrance to soaps, candles, and other products.
How much scented oil to use in soap making: The amount of scented oil you use in your soap will depend on the type of oil you are using, the strength of the fragrance, and your personal preference. A good starting point is to use 1-2% essential oil or fragrance oil per pound of soap.
Safety precautions: When using scented oils in soap making, it is important to take some safety precautions. Essential oils can be irritating to the skin, so it is important to dilute them properly. It is also important to avoid using essential oils that are not safe for use in soap making, such as citrus oils and cinnamon oil.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are 100% pure and natural. They are the most popular choice for scenting soap because they offer a wide range of benefits. However, they can be expensive and they can fade over time.
Fragrance Oils
Fragrance oils are synthetically created. They are less expensive than essential oils and are more stable, so they are less likely to fade. However, they do not offer the same therapeutic benefits as essential oils.
Here are some details regarding the different scented oil fragrance categories:
Floral Fragrances
These scents are often associated with relaxation and calmness. Some popular floral fragrances include lavender, rose, and jasmine.
Fruity Fragrances
These scents are often associated with freshness and energy. Some popular fruity fragrances include citrus fruits, peach, and mango.
Woody Fragrances
These scents are often associated with grounding and stability. Some popular woody fragrances include sandalwood, cedarwood, and oakmoss.
Spicy Fragrances
These scents are often associated with warmth and excitement. Some popular spicy fragrances include cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.

Essential Oils Disclaimer
The US Food and Drug Administration regulates cosmetics and drugs, but the requirements for each are quite different. It depends on a number of factors, including what claims are on the label.
According to the FDA website, the law defines a cosmetic as:
“The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) defines cosmetics by their intended use, as ‘articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body…for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance’ [FD&C Act, sec. 201(i)]. Among the products included in this definition are skin moisturizers, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail polishes, eye and facial makeup preparations, cleansing shampoos, permanent waves, hair colors, and deodorants, as well as any substance intended for use as a component of a cosmetic product.”
All the products we sell are intended for use as cosmetics soaps. If we claimed they helped with acne or headaches, they would need to be tested and registered with the FDA, and we are just a small business that enjoys making pretty soaps. That said, we do love using essential oils to enhance the luxurious essence of our soaps and to add fragrance to our products.
Lily Flower Trinkets and Soaps products are for cosmetic purposes only and have not been tested. We make no medicinal claims about our products.
